      With an impressive body
of work that encompasses film, television and theatre, Carmen Electra has transformed from sex symbol to one of Hollywood’s most versatile personalities. A mid-west girl at heart, Electra, who grew up near Cincinnati, Ohio, got her first break when a scout for Prince spotted her dancing. Since then, she has made the transition to acting and built a name for herself on the big and small screen.
Taking a break during a dance rehearsal for her own dance troupe ensemble, the Bombshells, who are gearing up to make a sizzling hot appearance at the upcoming Dinah Shore Weekend, Electra spoke with She magazine about her dream acting role, being the new face of Max Factor and always searching for that perfect balance between her professional life and her personal life (she is married to rocker, Dave Navarro).

How do you divide yourself between all of the projects that you’re involved with?
Well, assistants make your life a lot easier. I have an assistant that travels with me and helps me when I’m on the road. And then, Dave and I actually have an assistant that helps us with running errands and stuff around the house. All my focus goes on the work. I don’t clean. I don’t cook. I’m not very domestic. Luckily, we have people to help us with that kind of stuff, and then I can just focus on working and spending time with my husband. Dave and I definitely miss each other, and it gets really hard sometimes, but I think it’s important, in relationships, to have that time apart, so that you can miss the person that you’re with.

Can you talk about your involvement with ‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2’ and what it was like to work on a set with such veteran actors?
‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2’ was cool because there were so many kids in the movie that it really just became more like a family environment. Kids are so much fun. They’re so playful,  so outgoing and so fearless. Being around those kids, to me, was really cool because I’m a big kid. I love kids and I love being around their energy. And then, of course, working with Eugene Levy and Steve Martin was amazing. I was very intimidated, at first, but they were really sweet and made me feel comfortable. You would think that the kids would learn from the adults, but it was the other way around. We really became a family. It was a different experience than anything I’ve ever worked on.

How was it different from working on something like ‘Scary Movie 4’?
With ‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2,’ I spent two months with the cast. For ‘Scary Movie 4,’ I worked about a week and a half or two weeks on the movie. A lot of work is crammed into a short amount of time. But, I love working on comedies, laughing and being in an environment where it’s more light-hearted and silly. That’s my personality, so I love doing stuff like that.

What is ‘Nothing but the Truth,’ and what is your role in that?

I have a cameo in that movie. It’s basically just one scene. I’m playing myself. I just show up at this little boy’s birthday party and surprise him.

Did you feel more self-conscious playing yourself, instead of playing a character?
No, not really. You’re playing yourself, but there’s still a writer writing your words, so you’re not really playing yourself. They’re just using your name and the brand. I just think it’s more fun to play a part because I know that there’s a chance I could change my hair color, wear a completely different style wardrobe and really get into the character. But, if I’m playing myself, they basically want me to look like me, so I usually don’t get to have as much fun.

How did your dance troupe, the Bombshells, come about?
I love to dance, and I’ve been really lucky because I’ve been able to perform and I’ve worked with a lot of dance troupes, starting off with Erotic City, which was a dance group that Prince put together. I enjoy being in front of an audience and performing. It was a part of my life that I felt was missing. I would get so wrapped up into acting, and other things, that I missed dance. And, everyone kept asking me to perform at different events. So, finally, I just decided to start a group.
